U.S. M1917, S & W Revolver, 45 ACP, WW1

NRA Antique fine. Early manufacture, serial number 6339 (butt, edge of yoke, underside of barrel with S proof, cylinder side of extractor, pencil marked inside right grip). Cylinder has later serial number (50,000 range) but with early S proof, not the eagle head seen after the US Government took over inspection. Cylinder may have been replaced during WW1, stateside or in France, by unit armorer. Frame is GHS inspected (earliest inspection mark, replaced by ordnance bomb on later revolvers). Original, commercial blue finish with some loss on barrel due to holster wear along right side and muzzle. Traces of original case color in protected areas on hammer and trigger. Hammer has the early concentric rings. The US Government requested elimination of the grooves due to concern that they would collect dirt. The wooden grips have the concave surface at the top which was an early feature later eliminated. Turn marks on cylinder. Bore is excellent. Overall, the revolver is not pristine. I would not hesitate to shoot it. Very likely issued and carried. Possibly used in France since the earliest serial numbers usually went overseas. Buy the weapon, not the story. Right? ND Driver's license for purchase. Sale will include 2 half-moon clips. Please text for info
