Barrett Firearms introduced the M468 as a variant of the M4 Carbine to create a medium range rifle for close quarter combat meant for Special Operations. The Barrett M468 derives its name from being chambered in 6.8 mm Remington SPC for increased terminal velocity. The upper receiver is fitted with an A.R.M.S. S.I.R. system and features an integrated "flat top" Picatinny upper rail and four position handguard along with rear peep sights. The barrel utilizes flip up hooded, adjustable post sights.

This is news on the change to 6:8 weapons.
The US military is switching to 6.8 mm cartridges as part of the Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program:
XM7 rifle: A gas-operated, magazine-fed assault rifle that replaces the M4 carbine in close combat. The XM7 is chambered in 6.8 mm and is produced by SIG Sauer.
XM250 automatic rifle: Replaces the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) in close combat. The XM250 is also chambered in 6.8 mm.
6.8 mm ammunition cartridges: Designed by SIG Sauer and produced by Winchester.
The NGSW program also includes the XM157 Fire Control system, which was produced by Vortex Optics. The goal of the program is to improve the lethality of weapons for soldiers. The 6.8 mm cartridges are intended to provide better range and lethality against enemy body armor.
